Live the digital nomad dream in Zurich. In Switzerland’s financial hub, there’s no shortage of places to work and places where afterwork aficionados can let their hair down. If you’re coming to Zurich to combine business and pleasure, then you’ve definitely come to the right city. Visit a warm, welcoming coworking café to get your work done, and afterwards make the most of the city and the surrounding area by going on an adventure to discover the cultural and culinary highlights and meet the locals. If you’d like some inspiration to do exactly that, here are six of the Lyria team’s favourite places to both work and chat with the person sitting next to you. Ready to buckle down?

miró Roastery, Café & Shop

If you decide to visit this roastery, you can be sure of one thing: you’ll enjoy a delightfully delicious caffeine fix. The coffee is speciality grade and will give you an excellent energy boost to power you through all your projects. But before you place your order, take a moment early in the morning to enjoy the peace and quiet and the natural light outdoors. The best place to soak up this tranquil atmosphere is by getting a seat in front of the large bay window looking out onto the street. You’re bound to work 100 times better here!
📍 Miró Roastery, Brauerstrasse 58, 8004 Zurich, Switzerland.

The coworking space at the B2 Hotel

What kind of coworker will you be at the B2 Hotel? Will you be the person sitting at the big table with the notion of chatting to other remote workers, or will you be the person sitting in the corner, listening to music to stop people from coming up to you and trying to start a conversation? Choose how you’d like to kit yourself out for a productive day in this brand-new, fully equipped coworking space. With power sockets at every workstation, comfy armchairs, Wi-Fi, energising snacks and speciality coffee, you’re guaranteed to have a super-efficient day. Mix things up in the evening – when the space is transformed into a lively hub, the wine starts flowing and the music that you can’t not dance to starts playing. What a perfect opportunity to continue the conversations you had at the big table during the day!
📍 B2 Hotel, Brandschenkestrasse 152, 8002 Zurich, Switzerland.

Z am Park

You’ll find the entrance to Z am Park just along from Idaplatz. We recommend arriving by midday and enjoying a hearty lunch before getting down to business. One of our favourites on the Z am Park menu is the grilled cheese. Melted cheese (Gruyère, of course – do you really think it’d be anything else?) with spinach and a little cream cheese to add an extra twist to your sandwich. Round off your meal with a coffee prepared by a real barista in this local neighbourhood restaurant, then get stuck into your work.
📍 Z am Park, Zurlindenstrasse 275, 8003 Zurich, Switzerland.

Kraftwerk café

This is one of Zurich’s particularly unique venues. It’s impossible to tell at first glance whether it’s a restaurant, a bar, a coworking space or a former industrial site. Head to the site of what was the Selnau substation. Step inside this unusual establishment, where you’ll see shipping containers stacked on top of one another above the bar. There are 22 containers in total – and they are the perfect coworking spaces for organising your meetings, sitting down at your workstation and bringing your best projects to life! Kraftwerk is somewhere you’ll want to spend a whole day at least. Since it is open from 8 am to midnight, you can enjoy coffee at your computer in the morning, eat lunch in the front part of the space at lunchtime, and treat yourself to a beer at the back of the building in the events and concerts area in the evening! One thing’s for sure – your day will absolutely fly by here!
📍 Kraftwerk, Selnaustrasse 25, 8001 Zurich, Switzerland.

Auer & Co

Step out of the train station, walk a few metres and you’ll find yourself at the docks looking out onto the River Limmat. This is also where you’ll find Auer & Co. Set down your suitcase, take out your computer or notebook and get to work. You’ll feel right at home here in the softly lit, extremely comfortable and warm atmosphere. You can sit out on the terrace of this charming café and work in the sunshine while getting your caffeine fix. You’ll be surrounded by the hustle and bustle of workers, students and professionals going between meetings or exams. All the more reason to get your projects done and dusted.
📍 Auer & Co, Sihlquai 131, 8005 Zurich, Switzerland.

Central Library

If you’d like to spend a day combining work and cultural exploration, head to Zurich’s Central Library! Rub shoulders with the students and choose where you’d like to sit. Whether you prefer the peace and quiet of sitting alone in a corner or sitting among other hard workers is up to you. During your breaks, stroll through the bookshelves packed with novels, scientific journals, documentation and guidebooks. Why not also explore the library? It has retained its old-world charm despite renovations. It’s up to you to unlock its best-kept secrets! Stay on once you’ve finished your work to visit one of the current temporary exhibitions and marvel at some of Zurich’s cultural treasures.
📍 Central Library, Zähringerplatz 6, 8001 Zurich, Switzerland.

Café des Amis

This is the perfect workplace and meeting place for creative individuals and people who think outside the box. Café des Amis has a bistro atmosphere. Here, you’ll find some people reading, while others are working and others still are just having a good old catch-up. Café des Amis is the perfect place to have lunch with colleagues or to meet new people who are keen to have a coffee and a chat. It’s one of our favourite cafés in Zurich – and with good reason!
📍 Café des Amis, Nordstrasse 88, 8037 Zurich, Switzerland.

Working in Zurich doesn’t have to be hard. There are a multitude of cafés, libraries and coworking spaces ready and waiting to welcome you – whether you stay for an hour, lunch with colleagues or a productive day’s work. In the evenings and at weekends, make the most of the city by discovering its events venues, its culinary delights and its cultural treasures before catching the train home. It’s a winning combo, that’s for sure!
