If you only have a few hours to visit the capital, Les Invalides is a good place to start. Commissioned by Louis XIV in 1670, Les Invalides is located in the city centre and runs alongside the Seine. The monument comprises a hôtel, designed to accommodate disabled war veterans, several museums, a military pantheon and a chapel crowned with a magnificent golden dome. On the extensive lawns which border the monument, and around which you’ll certainly see rollerbladers and skateboarders, you can picnic or relax before it’s time to leave.
Paris by night
Gastronomy rightfully holds a place of honour in Paris. Let your taste buds lead you...or ask the locals for advice! To make the evening stretch into the night, there are jazz clubs, discos, peaceful bars and much more – the French capital has it all. If you’re visiting as a couple, don’t think twice about taking a bateaux-mouche riverboat: they’re ideal for admiring the shimmering banks of the Seine and the superbly lit monuments.
In the space of a weekend
The Musée du Quai Branly: located close to the Eiffel Tower, this museum houses remarkable collections from Asia, Africa and Oceania.
The Marais: a historic quarter where ancient stonework and fashionable shopping rub shoulders. From the Place des Vosges to the Picasso Museum, a visit here is a must.
