How about celebrating spring by the water’s edge...
Switzerland is overflowing with beautiful lakes, waterside facilities and leisure centres! Bike rides, picnics, canoeing, sailing…there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. Here is a brief description of some of Switzerland’s best lake activities to make the most of springtime.
A holiday atmosphere in the European city...
Crescent-shaped Lake Geneva is like our “Franco-Swiss” Lyria travel tips: shared between France and Switzerland with a border right in the middle! Strolling along the flower-lined quays, cooling off next to a fountain, swimming in the lake – these are all activities that give Geneva a taste of the Riviera.
If you haven’t already, you really should visit the Pâquis Baths. Located in an open harbour, they are symbolic of Geneva’s cosmopolitanism. A refreshment area, sauna, swimming areas and diving boards make this facility a unique place to relax and socialise! Alternatively, why not have a picnic in one of Geneva’s many parks? La Perle-du-Lac restaurant offers an unrestricted view over the lake and its pathway leads down to a little port protected by the harbour wall.
Amid the flowers…
Near Lausanne, enjoy the spring with a walk amongst the flowers and vegetation along the Promenade Jean-Jacques Mercier. This park, which could be considered the “arboretum” of the Vaud capital with some 350 species of trees, offers spectacular views over Lake Geneva. The benches on the promenade are there for you to sit and admire the vegetation or simply enjoy an afternoon in the sun.
A festive atmosphere
In a festive mood? Then the Lake Parade in Geneva is the thing for you! Festival floats, house, trance and electro music – the colourful parade runs alongside the lake while its waves lap to the rhythm of the techno music. Come along on 4 July 2009 and join in the techno parade around the harbour.
Also on the banks of the lake, but this time in Montreux where the atmosphere is just as festive, but more jazzy, is the unmissable Montreux Jazz Festival (from 3 to 18 July 2009) with pavement cafés, open-air concerts, bars and restaurants. With TGV Lyria, two can travel for the price of one thanks to our special offer! Tickets are on sale from 20 April to 17 May see to offer.
Ideas for Zurich
And let’s not forget Zurich! The most popular activities on the lake, the many beaches and numerous sunny islands include: the Mythenquai centre with diving facilities and a sandy beach (250m long) as well as the islands of Ufenau and Lützelau near Rapperswil. The Alpamare water park welcomes both parents and children to spend a day relaxing and playing in the water where there are no fewer than 10 water slides totalling 1,500m long. A must-see is the “small” wooden bridge – a footbridge 841m long that connects Hurden with Rapperswil!
The lakes are waiting for you to enjoy springtime Swiss-style – with your feet in the water!
