What is the Family Area on TGV Lyria trains?
Designed with kids (and their parents) in mind, the family coach is tailor-made for little ones. Settle in for a fun and memorable journey.
On board our TGV Lyria trains, you’ll find:
- Step-free easy access (coaches 8 and 18)
- Luggage storage spaces designed for families
- A nursery area located on the upper deck in coaches 7 and 17

Step 1: Family travel takes careful planning.
And it starts with your booking
Are your kids are under four? You’re in luck.
They travel free.
Child feeling unwell? Children’s tickets can be exchanged or cancelled free of charge (yup, we think of everything).
When booking your ticket in Standard class, remember to select the ‘Family Area’ option to be seated in this coach.
Step 2: We’ve thought of everything on board.
Head to the lower deck in coach 8 or 18. It’s fun and colourful, just as little ones like it.
Your kids will get a kit with an eco-friendly toy and a cardboard model of a TGV Lyria* to keep them entertained throughout the journey!
Nature calling? The toilets near the Family Area have child-friendly seats for the comfort of our younger passengers.

Step 3: And relax. We’ll take care of you.
If you spot the train manager, ask for souvenir tickets for the kids – they can be presented in the buffet car for a surprise! And the icing on the cake? During the school holidays, a ‘Little traveller’ activity booklet is also available**.
Tummies rumbling? Check out the delicious balanced options for children on our Le Bistrot menu. They can be enjoyed at any time of day in the buffet coach. Available as Click & Collect, or delivered to your seat in Première class.
Needless to say, Wi-Fi is free. Kids can get stuck into content just for them in our entertainment portal. Cartoons, games and podcasts make for guaranteed fun (with headphones of course).
And if you’re lucky, you might even catch one of our on-board events. Aimed at all the family, they explore themes such as well-being, culture, food and sustainable development.

Step 4: Appreciate the little touches that make all the difference!
After 9:00 pm and before 7:00 am, the lights are dimmed to make it easier for children and adults to rest. But don’t worry, there are also individual reading lights so you can keep doing what you’re doing.
A nursery area is available on the upper deck of coaches 7 and 17. There you’ll find cosy decor, a seat with armrests, a changing table with a disposable mat and a plastic bag dispenser for nappies. In short, everything you need to care for your little one.
