Luggage Taking bicycles and other items on the train

Lighten your load and lift your spirits! Whether you are travelling light, loaded, by bike, etc., TGV Lyria does everything to make your life easier.

💡 Our top tips for carefree travel

  1. Please only take luggage with you that you can easily carry and stow in the spaces provided for storage.
  2. Items, bags and suitcases carried by you are solely your responsibility. Remember to label them clearly with your name and address. Don’t forget your backpack.
  3. Make sure that your luggage is properly closed and do not leave it unattended. Please ensure you have not left anything behind before you leave the train.

By following these tips, you’ll help ensure you and your bags arrive safe and sound at your destination.

Hand luggage

For the comfort and safety of all passengers, only hand luggage (maximum 130 x 90 cm x 50 cm) is allowed on board TGV Lyria services. You must be able to easily move, carry and stow your luggage in the designated areas. This allows other passengers to easily and quickly take their seats when boarding.

Travelling with more than a suitcase? Here’s a list of other luggage you can take with you:

  • Bicycles, as long as they can be folded or their wheels can be removed and they are stored in covers (maximum dimensions of 130 cm x 90 cm)
  • Children’s pushchairs, folded
  • Skis stored in a labeled cover – maximum one pair per passenger (no size restriction)
  • Electric or manual scooters, folded
  • Surfboards or snowboards stored in a cover (maximum dimensions of 130 cm x 90 cm x 50 cm)
  • Musical instruments stored in a (preferably hard) case (maximum dimensions of 130 cm x 90 cm x 50 cm)
  • Double basses are accepted but are subject to certain conditions: they must be no more than 1.95 m long and stored in a soft, labelled case. Please inform the train manager before boarding. In the event of heavy passenger traffic, boarding with a double bass may nevertheless be refused.
  • Manual or electric wheelchairs for people with reduced mobility, who are permitted to keep their wheelchair with them, whether or not they remain in it during the journey.

Main luggage rules on board TGV Lyria: luggage with no weight limit provided you can carry it yourself; folded pushchairs; bicycles folded or dismantled and stored in a bag, max. 130 × 90 × 50 cm; special luggage stored in a bag or case, max. 130 × 90 × 50 cm.

Spaces designed just for your luggage

  • Cabin baggage or other compact bags may be placed at your feet, under your seat, or on the rack above your seat.

  • Other larger items of luggage must be stored on the racks at the entrance to or in the middle of your coach, or on the ground in the spaces between certain back-to-back seats.

  • For the comfort of all passengers and to allow everyone on board to move freely and comfortably around the train, it’s always best to place your luggage beneath your seat or in the designated compartments.

Luggage storage areas on board TGV Lyria: racks above the seats, spaces under the seats and between some back-to-back seats for small bags; dedicated storage areas at the entrance, in the middle and at the back of the carriage for larger luggage.

❌ Luggage not accepted on board

  • Hazardous (bladed weapons, firearms, hazardous sports equipment, explosives, flammable liquids, gas or butane cylinders, or any hazardous product).
  • Unusual: such as strong-smelling perishable foodstuffs or plants.
  • Bulky: such as electrical appliances, furniture, mattresses, packages or any other bulky items exceeding 75 x 53 x 30 cm when transported separately. These items may be carried on board if they are stored inside a piece of luggage that complies with the maximum permitted dimensions (130 x 90 x 50).
