Accommodation tips for staying in Dijon

You’d expect to eat and drink well in the city of the Grands Crus but you’ll also sleep comfortably – rest assured. In Dijon and the surrounding vine-clad countryside of Burgundy there are lots of great places to stay. Guest houses, bed and breakfasts, hotels and even campsites, for those of you who really want to go green, are all on the doorstep, meaning you can explore the city and the surrounding countryside with ease. Take your pick from our selection for your next trip to Dijon.

Bed and breakfast: Les Marcs d’Or

On the outskirts of Dijon, close to the famous Lake Kir, you’ll find this pretty bed and breakfast: Les Marcs d’Or. The surprise waiting for you when you arrive is that this is an old winegrower’s house, no less. And an old winegrower’s house means vines and, of course, buckets of charm! During the day, you can explore the city, which is a mere 15 minutes away by bike (which you can hire from the house). In the evening, however, it’s time to relax, away from the hustle and bustle of the urban centre. The minimalist guest rooms feature all the necessary comforts to ensure your getaway is both restful and rewarding. Start the day with a hearty breakfast amid the greenery of this timeless place, within easy reach of Dijon. Or, instead of going into the city, hop on a bike and make the most of the rural and wine-growing countryside. You're sure to find some great walks and vineyards to explore. If you like the sound of Les Marcs d’Or then book it now, as its five rooms get snapped up pretty quickly!

📍 B&B, Rue des Marcs d’Or 7, 21000 Dijon, France. Rooms from EUR 91

Beautiful guest house: L’école est finie

You need to go a little way out of Dijon to get to this highly original, aptly named guest house (it means ‘School’s out’). The rooms in this former village school, which was renovated just two years ago, still have that school feel – especially as they’re all called after things you’ll remember from your studies: library, geometry and round the world. Once you’ve settled in, you have two options: explore the tranquil countryside – featuring the Canal de Bourgogne, Cîteaux Abbey and the Grands Crus [A1] route – or take a 30-minute train ride (the station is practically on your doorstep!) to Dijon to check out the gastronomic delights and history of the city. A little tip, if you go in the summer: take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool. When you arrive at Dijon station on one of our trains, you simply need to take a TER (regional) service to get to this little gem of a guest house, with its three spacious rooms and breakfasts to die for.

A studio in Dijon: Le Comte (central Dijon)

In Dijon, why not stay in an apartment rather than a hotel? The city has many available to rent. Find your own perfect cocoon for a few days. Our favourite is Le Comte – an apartment that has it all: good location, great price, loads of charm, the lot!

For those who want to make the most of their time in Dijon, Le Comte is the ideal place to stay. It’s right in the centre of the city, in a charming old building – a typical Dijon dwelling. Exposed brick, white walls, a kitchenette, fully equipped bathroom – everything you need plus all the charm of Dijon in one apartment! It really is the perfect spot from which to explore the city on foot – from the famous Dijon owl to the shops full of local specialities (mustard, anyone?) and, of course, the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy.

📍 Le Comte (central Dijon), Rue de la Préfecture 7, 21000 Dijon, France. Rooms from EUR 104 per night.

Affordable hotels: Hôtel des Halles

Feel the need to spoil yourself? Then drop your bags at Hôtel des Halles, right in the centre of Dijon. As its name suggests, it’s not far (just 50 m) from the Dijon indoor market hall (Les Halles). Visit the market when you arrive and again, just before you leave. The first time to try, the second time to buy. The hotel’s location is ideal for exploring the city and its palace and, later, for laying your head. The 37 rooms are decorated in a modern style and are so comfortable, you almost won’t want to get out of bed! After an early breakfast, ask at reception for advice on the best places to visit – whether you’re into history, food or culture, they’ll be able to point you in the right direction.

📍 Hôtel des Halles, Rue Montigny 8, 21000 Dijon, France. Rooms from EUR 100 per night.

Camp at the Relais des Hautes-Côtes

When it comes to good deals, it’s hard to beat camping. Head for the outskirts of Dijon or go right out into the countryside and spend a few nights in a yurt! At this campsite south of Dijon you’ll find some unique accommodation. If yurts are not your thing, there are also small family chalets available, and even igloo chalets, which are perfect for couples. If you like hiking or nature trails and you’ve been thinking of visiting Burgundy for some time, then this campsite is made for you. For the pizza fans, you will love the fact they’re made on site, to order, and served with a glass of good local wine directly from the bar.

📍 Camping Le Relais des Hautes-Côtes, Impasse du Château d’Eau 6, 21220 Chambœuf, France.

It’s not just the city of Dijon that will open its doors to you, it’s the whole region. What better way to discover it than by staying in different places? Even arriving into Dijon station on one of our trains, you’ll be able to get to all your accommodation in less than an hour and find yourself right in the heart of wine-growing country! Restful nights and a beautiful new view every morning...
